‘“Human/Nature’ aims to explore the relationship between the human body and the surrounding environment, specifically the ways in which the body is affected and shapes our understanding of place. Through a range of mediums including sculpture, painting, printmaking and installation art, the exhibition will investigate how the body inhabits, interacts with and leaves traces on the landscape.
‘Human/Nature’ will showcase works by a diverse group of emerging artists, each with a unique approach to the theme.”
Artist Statement
Intergenerational memory is often viewed as a passive reception of the past. However, in this body of work, I aim to actively engage with familial memory and history to uncover what was. Objects and photographs can hold generational memories that prompt the sharing of stories. My series of paintings are prompted by the use of old family photographs as a vehicle to explore the complex emotional landscapes that come with post-memory (memories that are inherited but not experienced directly by an individual). They serve as a bridge between the past and the present, connecting an outsider into those histories and emotions.
