Rocklore (2023)

‘Rocklore’ (2023) utilises sculpture and sound to create an immersive installation as an attempt to revisit a childhood bushwalk experience shared with Van Leeuwen’s grandparents. At the end of the path, a series of large rocks became a natural playground leaving a large indent in her memory. The installation recreates the ‘wave rock’ from van Leeuwen’s childhood, she uses it as a vehicle to navigate memory’s unreliability and fallibility. Exploring the dynamics of trust and distrust, ‘Rocklore’ highlights how information embeds into our memory and influences our recollections of the past.
